About Mr. Tie-Dye

Mr.Tie-Dye 'at home' in the 'Smokies'
This is My Story...

I consider myself a helper!  Ever since I was a kid, I have enjoyed helping people - mowing yards, planting gardens, raking leaves, fixing cars and other things.  A lot of this 'helping' came at the request of my Dad, who is a bit of a 'tinkerer'.  He likes working with his hands and fixing things...and so do I.

We lived in the country growing up, and there was always a project to do.  I grew up learning to tend a garden, build things, paint, work on cars and houses, prune fruit trees, raise honeybees and much more.  I tagged along with my Dad on the projects he did around the house.  I started as just another set of hands, but before long, I picked up varied skills, found a desire to try new things and all along the way learned the value of hard work.

The only "handyman" I knew back then was "Handyman Negri" on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. It was so cool to me that a 'mr.fixit' loved and could play music!  (Joe Negri is still a cool guy and I credit him, through his coordination of the music on the Mr. Rogers show, for kindling my love of jazz music.)

I have always enjoyed working on my own house to continue to make it feel like the home that I want. I'm naturally curious and like to learn how things work.  I love 'the details' of a project, and focus diligently on doing what's right and doing it to the best of my ability.  I have learned over time, if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.

Growing up in church and coming from a family of pastors, missionaries, and lifelong Christians taught me the importance of honesty and respect. I do my best to teach those values to my 7 kids.

Why "Tie-Dye?"

The answer is simple - I like Tie-Dye patterns...always have.  Perhaps it's the influence of the 60's in my family or maybe just because I love color - something about the unique shapes and shades of color bring me joy.  I like to say the designs represent my disposition: colorful, positive, sunny and warm - a down-to-earth personality with a fun side.  I start every day and project with a prayer and positivity - Every Day can be a Great Day with the right attitude and hard work!

Outside of my faith, my family is a source of strength and joy.  I love kids and whenever I'm not working, you'll likely find me spending time with my wife and family - camping, playing a sport or a board game, watching and making movies, playing in the dirt, traveling and just enjoying life together.

Mr.Tie-Dye wears Tie-Dye clothing as his 'uniform' because it makes him happy!
